I’ve spent time on the mission field witnessing to Mormons: one thing I learned is that there is a spirit that attends that doctrine, providing a false witness [a warm feeling inside] to those whom it deceives. [Glenn speaks of this feeling in the video you posted.]

It is the best counterfeit I know of Christianity [in terms of external appearances and lifestyle]: only thing is, when you talk to their converts from foreign countries, they all have ‘dead eyes’ [flat, no life or joy]. It is a religion of great bondage to the soul: as one young Mormon man said to me one time, “It’s a hard religion to live.”

On a side note, once when I was on a missionary trip to Wyoming, the Lord sent me to visit one of their churches [probably unusual and one of those things a saint should never do unless God provides specific direction to do so; the Lord placed a couple in my path when I got there that 'invited' me in.] All their songs are like funeral dirges, and when they take communion, they use water [which is less symbolic of blood than grape juice?]: also, when they drank their water, they threw back their heads and gulped it, like cowboys throwing back a shot of whiskey.

Didn’t know Glenn was a Mormon; thanks for telling me.

As far as having him speak in a real church, speechless …

I wonder if Hagee is a real Christian anyway. I seem to remember him denying Christ back in 2007 or so when he had some kind of ties with Jews in Israel. The way I remember it is he wrote something about Jews don’t need Jesus to be saved and I think he stopped praying in Jesus’ name around certain company. I guess I’m not surprised by this union. Glenn Beck has been building up to this for a long time. I used to listen to his radio program from about 2001 until about 2009. The Spirit in me just couldn’t take the false religious stuff coming out of his mouth. Watch out for Glenn, he thinks he’s been hand picked by God for a special purpose.

Mark – I have had very similar encounters when out passing out tracts. There is something with the dead eyes foir sure. -Jim

Here’s a link to some commentary on Hagee’s controversy at the time: http://carm.org/john-hagee-denies-jesus-claimed-to-be-the-messiah

Incidentally, there were some videos at other places that had been removed per request of Hagee’s ministry. Some videos were recent. Makes me think he has something to hide.

  6. Mark and Vicki Finger Says:

Very interesting, Al. [I read the article.]

My wife likes to listen to Hagee. She asked me about him, and I told her, “Truth is truth and lies are lies” [test all things, hold fast to that which is good].

Creflo Dollar [his name = greed] who preaches the “God came to earth to make you rich” gospel and Joyce Myers [usurps men's authority] preach from his pulpit.

Hagee uses Israel as a good luck charm, like a talisman, so that if he supports Israel, he will get some payoff for his support.

Which is the same principle as the Prosperity Gospel.

He “plays the Israel card”, knowing that he will get money from naive Christians for doing that.

Is there any preacher on Christian TV who is not a joke?

Support for Israel is probably the common ground he has with Glenn Beck, and hence the friendship.

And then you see that such an opportunistic faith, or pragmatic beliefs, really do not have any Godly principles undergirding them : i.e. If it’s good for you, and it gets you what you want, then it’s true.

Such people, then, have no qualms to trample over the Blood of Christ if they see a way to make more money, or get more power.

The fact that Hagee invited Beck to preach in his church shows that he is a shameless opportunist, who is using Beck’s high public profile to promote his own interests, and increase his own profile, despite the fact that by doing so he is spitting on Jesus Christ.

And, out the thousands in Hagee’s church, NOT ONE person with enough character to get up and rebuke him.

    …………………………………………………………………..

Having a common foe can unite even the most unlikely bedfellows, but that ain’t right.

Just like hatred for Israel unites the different Muslim factions. Having a common enemy unites them.

A similar thing happens in Christianity ; some Christians are united simply by the fact that they hate Benny Hinn, or they think that all miracles, tongues and healings are of the devil.

And some are united by their support for Benny Hinn, and any type of supernatural phenomena.

Or united by believing that the Catholic Church is Babylon the Great. etc.

Or united in conspiracy theories etc.. Or in house church….

In the case of Hagee, many Christians would support Hagee simply bcos he supports Israel, and ignore his heretical beliefs and practices.

I also support Israel, but i do it for Biblical reasons, and i’m leery of any sort of Christian unity built on supporting different causes, or non-essential for salvation doctrinal stances, as it is so superficial, as it avoids the reality of the body of Christ.

Jimmy Swaggart (surprisingly, since he had problems in his ministry for some time) has EXCELLENT teaching of faith in the cross, uplifting Jesus, and a sound understanding of scripture.

He’s the only one I know that is worth listening to …

    There may be another.

Before I heard him, I didn’t believe there was even one.

I wonder if he would be open to having fellowship?

    “faith in the cross”

Just a note, the NT does not say to put our faith in the cross, but to put our faith in the crucified and risen Jesus, and believe that His work on the Cross was indeed accomplished and finished. Saying “faith in the cross” implies faith in an object, even though i know that is not what Mark is implying, but it can be taken that way.

  10. Mark and Vicki Finger Says:

Yes, Ian, I agree that we are to [as you rightly said] “put our faith in the crucified and risen Jesus, and believe that His work on the Cross was indeed accomplished and finished.”

The cross is symbolic of Who Christ is and what He did [for the two cannot be separated].

We see this same symbolic language at work in Christ’s own commands—that we take up and bear our cross, as He did His—and this implies a laying down of our own will and a taking up of the will of God (Matthew 16:24; Luke 14:27).

We see this same language at work in Paul’s example:

And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution? then is the offence of the cross [Christ] ceased.

    –Galatians 5:11

For the preaching of the cross [Christ] is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

    –1 Corinthians 1:18

Of course, Paul did not preach two wooden beams, but the Perfect, slain, and resurrected Lamb of God Who comes to take away the sins of the world: the word “cross” implies all 3 things concerning Christ [He was without sin, lay down His life as an atonement for the sins of all men, and was resurrected on the 3rd day].

  11. ian vincent Says:

Absolutely! But that was not the point i raised.

I wasn’t objecting to the Biblical use of the word, cross, as obviously, it is applied in the Gospel, in the ways you have explained.

I’m just noting that nowhere does the Bible say “put your faith in the cross”, and suggesting that perhaps the reason God did not speak this way is that it could easily be misunderstood as putting faith in an object.

If you went on the streets and preached, “have faith in the cross”, many people would think you mean a physical cross, or on some superstitious level.

  12. Mark and Vicki Finger Says:

Ian, every day of my life, I benefit from your faithfulness to God–because it translates to faithfulness to God’s people–and to me, specifically, as a brother in the Lord Jesus Christ.

    ……………………………………………………………………….

Teaching someone to place their faith in an object would be a violation of the 2nd commandment.

What the word “cross” symbolically means most definitely does need to be explained (and repeatedly emphasized)–for which cause, I am in complete agreement with your stated concern above–but that being done, I think it is perfectly fine to say when preaching or teaching, “Look to the cross.”

    Why?

It directs people’s focus not only to the Source of all life (Christ) but also to the means by which we received this life (which is important for us to always remember).

[Perhaps, this is why atheists are so furious with crosses.]

This is why Christ, in His glorified body, has nail holes in His hands and feet: we are never to forget (or lose focus upon) the price He paid for us.

When I think of the cross, I think of Christ who made a tree of death into a tree of life for all who believe and receive His healing touch.

    Praise be to God.

hagee ministries has video removed from youtube for copyright violation claim (not withstanding it is fair use for criticism under us copyright codes).

Men love darkness because their deeds are evil.

  14. Al Nelson Says:

Not surprising. If Hagee was preaching truth he wouldn’t be ashamed to have his messages portrayed. But he isn’t following the true Christ is he.

  15. ian vincent Says:

One of the fruits of a true disciple of Jesus is that when they are wrong they admit it.

Hagee pulled the video, but as far as i know he hasn’t admitted why it was wrong for him to have Beck speak in his church.

    ….For starters.
