the easier it is to pray, as your heart gets enlarged, and the ‘spirit of prayer’ carries you along.
If we grieve the Holy Spirit then we lose the ‘spirit of prayer’ – that is, the desire and the grace or power to pray.
If we obey the Holy Spirit’s promptings to pray, then we enter into the ‘spirit of prayer’ and it becomes as easy as breathing.
So, there is an enlarging of our hearts or spirit which happens, and there is also a shrinking of our hearts which can happen if we neglect prayer.
Our capacity to pray (genuinely) is the same as our capacity to love.
If our heart is stretched in prayer then it is enlarged and has a greater capacity, or vice-verse, if it shrinks we lose that capacity.
Among the many blessings of prayer is that, thru it, God enlarges and changes our heart, our capacity to pray and love.
(By prayer i mean intercession : praying for people by name, and not prayer just centered on ourselves)
