Whosoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and everyone that loves him that begat loves him also that is begotten of him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not burdensome. For whoever is born of God overcomes the world: and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcomes the world, but he that believes that Jesus is the Son of God? 1 John 5:1-5
That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Romans 8:4
The person in Christ who walks by faith, by the Spirit, fulfills the moral law by virtue of the Spirit.
What is the fruit of the Spirit? It is the Holy Spirit fulfilling and exceeding the moral law in us. We don’t bear the fruit of the Spirit by setting our eyes and minds on the moral law, and by trying to keep every point academically, but by looking unto Jesus, trusting Him, being taught by Him and obeying His words.
Christians who become obsessed with the moral law could be doing so bcos their conscience is not right with God – it could simply be the expression of a conscience which is still seeking after, and has not found, rest.
Whoever is born of God overcomes the world... Why do these overcome the world? Bcos they believe they have been born of God! …And this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith. Meaning: the substance of victorious, overcoming faith is the fact that you have been born of God. This is what you believe, that God has given birth to you by His Spirit, thru faith in His Son, and THIS IS THE VICTORY that you believe this, and the fruit of this faith is the fruit of the Spirit, the fruits of righteousness.
