Conformed to whom? Fred Bloggs?

Romans 12:1-2 Therefore, brothers, I exhort you through the compassions of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, well pleasing to God, which is your intelligent (logical) service. (2) And do not fashion yourselves (conform) to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and well pleasing and perfect will of God.

Saw this morning how, in that we are not to be “conformed to this world”, in verse 2 : the “world” here means the totality of everything other than Christ Himself. It means we are to be conformed to Christ exclusively. Many times we have been conformed to men, other than the Man Christ Jesus. The system thrives on this.

Rom. 12:1-2 is an ongoing process. Some of us have more to “unlearn” , to un-conform from, than others, depending on how deep we have been into personal idolatry. The Lamb will have a people conformed to Him and not another. Only such are “free”.

A brother’s comment on a forum, which is apt here:

“I’d only ask that people recognize that there is a generalized human need to have someone to admire, and to be careful in how we respond to that need.”

Worth understanding how we tick, eh.

We must never knowingly fulfill another’s need for someone to admire, by the way we present ourselves to others. Such is a misrepresentation of the truth in Christ Jesus.

2 Cor. 12:6 For if I should desire to boast, I will not be foolish; for I will speak the truth. But I spare you, lest anyone consider me to be beyond what he sees me to be or hears something from me.

Many times we’ve considered certain people to be “beyond” or above, what they really are in truth, and vice-versa.

The truth has to prevail in every instance. We can say, that those who cloud, obscure, misrepresent or exaggerate the truth about who they are (make themselves out to be someone) are making themselves enemies of the Truth, and causing others to stumble, by drawing others after themselves (contrast with Paul’s attitude).
