Keep yourselves in the love of God

But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, anticipating the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life. Jude 1:20-21

The Kingdom of Christ, and of God and of Heaven, has a boundary, a border, just as do all kingdoms. It’s His love that delineates the boundary of the Kingdom of God, and it’s His love in us which assures us we are indeed within the boundaries, within His country (1 John 3:14).

We are commanded to keep ourselves in the love of God, that is, within the boundaries of His Love. This means that there is a tendency and a bias working in us and against us which tries to draw us out of the love of God. This is a continual conflict in every saint who is being sanctified.

Whenever we start to cross the borderline, where we are not moved by the love of Christ, not moved by compassion, we are crossing the line into another kingdom, a strange country; the old land of Egypt from where we came.

Keep yourselves in the love of God – may His love direct us and keep us moment by moment.
