Everything BUT Jesus

February 15, 2010

Prophecy: It’s all about Jesus
The flesh: It’s everything BUT Jesus

Pray this way

February 15, 2010

After this manner therefore pray: Our Father who is in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. Matthew 6:9-13

Is it possible for true gifts of the Spirit to be misused or abused?

February 15, 2010

Would the Holy Spirit allow that? Would He permit anyone to “use” or misuse His gifts?

Some say that in the claimed ‘outpourings’ and ‘revivals’ today, that the real gifts of the Holy Spirit are present, but in an extreme form; that is, that they go too far, and overboard with the gifts. I disagree. The Holy Spirit never allows Himself to be used, abused or manipulated.

Therefore, real gifts of the Spirit can’t really ‘go bad’ or flaky bcos the Holy Spirit doesn’t do such stuff.  Therefore, it’s virtually impossible to misuse, or abuse, or go too far with the true gifts of the Holy Spirit, for He would never allow that.

Therefore, when we see the apparent ‘misuse’ of the gifts it’s more than likely that it’s a demonic power in operation.

By the Spirit

February 15, 2010

is mentioned 13 times in the NT;  in the Spirit, 24 times.

Note that in all these references it’s assumed that the reader understands what by the Spirit means. That is, Scripture doesn’t try and break that phrase down into modern terminology, like: He FELT the Spirit, or his feelings, emotions or his 5 senses, and then he acted.

It’s just bluntly put, by the Spirit, and the reader should understand.

Like, today, if you said that you did something by the Spirit, some may ask, What does that  mean? You mean you had a gush of emotion, an ecstatic experience, which caused you to do something? Which may indicate that such really don’t know what it is to LIVE, move and serve by the Spirit. They may be more in the soulish-feely-touchy realm, on one hand, or on the other end of the spectrum, trying to function solely from their own intellectual understanding of Scripture, to the point that hearing His voice, to them, means solely an intellectual grasp of truth.

If any believer reading this doesn’t know what it means to live and serve by the Spirit, then please prayerfully seek God, with the Scriptures, about it.

For those with a deficiency in fabulousness

February 13, 2010

no need to worry, Jesus has it all together. There never really ever was any competition with Him, nor could there ever be, eh. But the world and christendom doesn’t realize this. For those who are in Christ and are unfabulous people, relax and rejoice in Him.

Self Love not Biblical

February 11, 2010

I can understand someone feeling inferior or worthless, and how bad that is, but i can’t yet believe that self love is Biblical, apart from the natural way that each person takes care of themselves : Love your neighbor as you love yourself :  Look after others in the same way that you look after yourself.

The reason for this is our identification with Christ in His death and resurrection, …I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. It’s this identification which lifts us up out of feeling worthless or inferior and gives us the only valid reason to live : to live for Him and not for ourselves. We take care of ourselves bcos we love Him, and love others, not bcos we love ourselves.

The question to ask is, When Jesus was on the earth did He love Himself? Did the Apostles love themselves? I would say, no.

The gift of Prophecy today

February 11, 2010

When we read Jesus words to the seven churches then we get an insight into the REAL gift of prophecy.

Not that the gift of prophecy will mimic that, but the essence is the same : Jesus candidly speaking to His church.

Predestination and Freewill

February 11, 2010

I see in one place, God presiding over all in providence; and yet I see, and I cannot help seeing, that man acts as he pleases, and that God has left his actions to his own will, in a great measure.

Now, if I were to declare that man was so free to act, that there was no presidence of God over his actions, I should be driven very near to Atheism; and if, on the other hand, I declare that God so overrules all things, as that man is not free enough to be responsible, I am driven at once into Antinomianism or fatalism.

That God predestines, and that man is responsible, are two things that few can see. They are believed to be inconsistent and contradictory; but they are not. It is just the fault of our weak judgment. Two truths cannot be contradictory to each other.

If, then, I find taught in one place that everything is fore-ordained, that is true; and if I find in another place that man is responsible for all his actions, that is true; and it is my folly that leads me to imagine that two truths can ever contradict each other.

These two truths, I do not believe, can ever be welded into one upon any human anvil, but one they shall be in eternity: they are two lines that are so nearly parallel, that the mind that shall pursue them farthest, will never discover that they converge; but they do converge, and they will meet somewhere in eternity, close to the throne of God, whence all truth doth spring.

From Spurgeon’s sermon Sovereign Grace and Man’s Responsibility, based on Romans 10:20-21 and delivered Aug. 1, 1858.

Seek my face

February 9, 2010

Your face, LORD, will I seek. Psalm 27:8

Doctor to patient:  Hmmm, you’re in pretty bad shape, you haven’t been seeking His face, have you?

Smith’s Friends

February 9, 2010

Yesterday we had 2 men whom we don’t know visit us. We found out after some time that they are from a cult called “Smith’s Friends”. Someone had referred them to us bcos they thought we would get on, being ‘house church’ people like them. But as the conversation went on i noticed that all they kept talking about was sin, not Jesus.

Turned out that they believe that Jesus was born with a sin nature, and that He overcame sin in His life and sort of earned His own salvation thru His efforts. And they say that that is the gospel, that we also must earn our salvation thru our efforts to crucify our flesh. They don’t use the words “earning salvation” but that’s what they mean. A lot of gobbledygook.

Ultimately it was all about their own self glorification in them “working out” their salvation with fear and trembling. Twisting that scripture to make it mean earning salvation. A sin consciousness.

They only talk about crucifying their flesh. He asked me, Do you crucify your flesh when you’re tempted? I said, When i’m tempted i simply dont obey the tempter. Done. I look to Jesus. There’s no self glory in that, is there? I cant then make a big deal of how i ‘crucified my flesh’ today! The big deal i WILL make is that i was a criminal on death row and Jesus loved me, died in my place and pardoned me and set me free. Later i thought i should have asked him, Please give all the details of your daily “self crucifixion”. What does it look like?

They are those who want to …make a good showing in the flesh… Gal. 6:12, by always magnifying, testifying and glorying in how they are “crucifying their flesh” : a show. They don’t understand that to always draw attention to yourself and your efforts to crucify yourself, that THAT itself is a work of the flesh.

So, about 9pm i asked them to leave. They were going to stay the night but i sent them out, then took them to the next town, we couldn’t just leave them out in the middle of nowhere at night.

Sheela and i tried to present the true gospel but they couldn’t understand. I think one of them was saved, the younger one, but he needs to be shaken up about what he has accepted and is captive to. The older one couldn’t give a straight answer when i asked him if he is saved.

Not a nice thing to happen.

The 2 way street

February 8, 2010

And as you would that men should do to you, do you also to them likewise. Luke 6:31

A ‘church’ gives you a check list of requirements which must be filled before they will accept you as a member. So, you give them a list of YOUR requirements before you will accept them into fellowship with you. But it doesn’t work that way, does it?

A person or a team wants to visit your place and ‘minister’ to you. OK, just as long as they come as equals and are equally eager to learn from you and be taught by you, as they are to teach you. But it doesn’t work that way, does it?

Not many people treat others as equals and in the way that they want to be treated.

Snowmageddon and Climategate

February 8, 2010

The religion of Political Correctness suffers a minor setback.

All things are yours

February 8, 2010

therefore live out of the spiritual wealth which is yours in Christ Jesus.

Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are yours; Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours; And you are Christ’s; and Christ is God’s. 1Cor 3:21-23

Don’t live one more day AS IF all things WERE NOT yours. Don’t live out of spiritual poverty, which is to be believe less than the truth in Christ Jesus.

When believers glory in men then they’re acting as if they are in spiritual poverty.

“…Her idea was to focus on one word at a time over and over and over….”

That’s essentially idolatry.

We come to a living Person, our LORD Jesus Christ, by the Holy Spirit.

If He causes us to deeply consider something, fine. But we know His nature, and He speaks personally to us in our spirit. He doesn’t follow a rut. Employing any technique immediately tells you that the person doesn’t hear His voice.

Same is true with following man-made traditions.

Someone raised the issue of ‘feelings’ : There are natural feelings and there are spiritual senses, the division of soul and spirit. If we have genuine faith and are walking with Jesus, it would be unthinkable to go looking for good feelings or longing for experiences. Real faith is more real and deeper than that. You are crucified with Christ. You no longer live, but Christ lives in you. If this is a reality in a person then they trust their living Head to lead and instruct them.

And your commitment to God is not for what you can get out of it, otherwise it’s not worship in Spirit and truth. It’s a question of honor.

Yesterday i sensed the grief of the Holy Spirit in me, that He was offended. So, what i feel is irrelevant, but i better be in tune with what He ‘feels’! If He’s fine, i’m fine. If He has an objection, He let’s us know. How much more does He let us know of His pleasure in us!

The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God… Romans 8:16

Essentially, if we are seeking Him and loving Him with all our heart, then He let’s us know what He wants us to know : He maintains our life and we walk in that life He gives us; He orders our steps.

It’s wonderful how He communicates with us what He wants us to know.

All should come to repentance

February 7, 2010

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9

Salvation is described here as coming to repentance.

He who walks in the midst of the seven golden lampstands

February 7, 2010

/ Revelation 2:1 /

When He is walking in our midst He has some things to say to us, as we note in the first 3 chapters of Revelation.

Oh that we would listen and take heed to what Jesus is saying to us,  His churches, today.

We hope that many believers realize soon

February 6, 2010

that they are not smarter or more enlightened than Paul the Apostle.

Jesus is coming soon

February 4, 2010

Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. Matthew 24:34

The years of our life are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty; yet their span is but toil and trouble; they are soon gone, and we fly away. Psalm 90:10 ESV

1948 plus 70 years  =  2018.

Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When its branch is yet tender, and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near: So likewise you, when you shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. Matthew 24:32-33

We know they are alive to God bcos they respond to God

February 4, 2010

When we, as a church, are predisposed to obey, already committed to obey, then that’s the ‘environment’ of the Holy Spirit, His House, where He is pleased to dwell, and His pleasure is recognized and appreciated by all. For He won’t dwell with an unresponsive, rebellious people.

What i’m saying is that the ‘raw material’ has to be there for God to build His House, and the only raw material can be the living stones : those who are alive, and we know they are alive to God bcos they respond to God, responding to the truth of His Word and His Spirit.

And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.  Ephesians 1:22-23

Jesus said that false prophets shall do GREAT signs and wonders

February 3, 2010

… not pathetic fake tricks like feathers, gold dust and gem stones, nor shaking, laughing, rolling on the ground etc… These are NOT great signs and wonders which could nearly deceive the elect.

Only get concerned when you see false prophets doing GREAT signs and wonders. I don’t know any of the false prophets on the ‘list’ today who do great signs and wonders.

Great signs and wonders will be medically verified and proven miraculous healings and the like. Everything shall point to it being God doing it, EXCEPT that the person doing it is a joke, not having the character of Jesus, nor His Truth.

For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show GREAT signs and wonders; so that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Matt 24:24
