And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled. Luke 21:24
Jerusalem was sacked and the Jews dispersed in the 1st Century, fulfilling Jesus words here. While the Jews were in exile the Gentiles did indeed control Jerusalem, again, fulfilling the Word of the LORD.
Crucially, Jesus is saying that the end of Gentile dominance over the city of Jerusalem (bcos the Jews return from exile and regain control) marks the final chapter or phase of history before Jesus returns to earth.
The sign: when the Gentiles lose control of Jerusalem then their time is up. They will never tread down Jerusalem again, their time is over. That time is now. We are facing the most tumultuous period the world will ever face, bcos the Gentiles still think THEY own Jerusalem and want it back. They don’t know that their time is up, the times of the Gentiles has been fulfilled.

Glory!

To those who spiritualize everything this won’t make sense. They won’t see how a physical city, Jerusalem, is the center and pivotal point of the history of the world. But that’s what Jesus said. He wasn’t referring to the New Jerusalem which will descend from heaven, he was speaking about the Jerusalem that’s there today. He prophesied that in the end time the Gentiles will lose their control of the city of Jerusalem, and that will signify the end and His coming.
Whether the times of the Gentiles being fulfilled means specifically in relation to Jerusalem and the Land of Israel, that their time is fulfilled, or whether it also means that from that time on, no more Gentiles will be saved, i don’t know, yet.

I don’t know either, ian. But it just seems like things are speeding up! I mean Jesus COULD come back at anytime now! That to me is glorious. The fact that a little tiny nation has so much to do with the endtimes is glorious! The fact that God planned it that way… it is all glorious to me! Lord come quickly!

Glorious to me too! Amen, come quickly LORD Jesus!

This was fulfilled in AD 70:
Luke 21:24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles….
But the last part of the sentence has been fulfilled only in our generation:
” ….. until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.”
After nearly 2000 years of being trodden down by the Gentiles, Jerusalem is back under Israeli control.
Much of what Jesus prophesied has not yet been fulfilled, but is about to be: For example: Mat 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto ALL nations; and then shall the end come.
ALL means all. This is only being fulfilled now.
There’s much more as well.

I have a question. Do you know where the gospel has not been preached? I’ve been to quite a few countries..including Muslim countries and there has always been a witness of the gospel everywhere I have been.
Notice also the passage in Mat 24:14 does not say there must be a local church in every nation or part of the world but simply that the gospel is preached as a “witness”.
What are your thoughts?

Our thoughts are the same, brother. We also noted years ago that the gospel is for a witness in all the world, contrary to dominionist teaching.
I think we could be nearly at the place, if we aren’t already, where there are representatives from every people group in the body of Christ, and this scripture can be fulfilled:
Rev 7:9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and tribes, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;
Mat 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto ALL nations; and then shall the end come.
Therefore, the “end”, which Jesus speaks of here, is imminent – very close.

And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of saints. And they sang a new song, saying, You are worthy to take the scroll, and to open the seals thereof: for you were slain, and have redeemed us to God by your blood out of every tribe, and tongue, and people, and nation; And have made us unto our God a kingdom and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
(Rev 5:8-10)
Interesting that the company of saints presently in heaven will soon reign on the earth.
