He that asks, but is double-minded, shall receive nothing of the LORD

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men liberally, and reproaches not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavers is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the LORD. A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways. James 1:5-8

How can we avoid being double-minded, and be single-minded in our requests to our Father? By taking prayer more seriously. By seeking His face. Even fasting. Faith arises from fellowship with Him, believing His word, fellowship in the truth. Faith comes by hearing the word of God: hearing, in our spirit, the will of God, the desire and plan of God.

A lazy, casual approach to prayer usually results in us being double-minded: a mixture of “faith” and doubt. A casual person can’t really prevail in prayer.

This scripture implies that there is a standing by faith to receive the things we have asked of the LORD. During this standing, or waiting, if a person is double-minded, they shall receive nothing from the LORD.

This means there will be a struggle to remain single-minded. Doubts will have to be cast down.
