Faith and Doubt

And he that doubts is condemned if he eats, because he eats not of faith: for whatever is not of faith is sin. Romans 14:23

This applies to everything in life, not just food. Everything we do should be OF faith : The result or effect of faith; Faith is the source of it; The outworking of what we believe is true and right. Whatever we do from doubt is sin.

The disciple who hears the voice of His Shepherd and who is grounded in His truth, will always walk in faith. The one who follows tradition will always be hounded by doubts, for their faith is not grounded in the truth; not in what God has said, but in what man has dictated.

An interesting correlation to this verse [from the same chapter]: “To the pure, all things are pure; but to he who is defiled, it is defiled.”

I knew a brother (albeit a very immature one) years ago who was the epitomy of “to the defiled, all things are defiled” : he was suspicious of everything and everyone. He would check out everything and everyone with a fine-tooth comb before declaring them kosher. To him, everyone had an angle. There was nothing innocent. Everything had to be examined.

All this was an extension of his own guilty conscience.

Having the joy of the LORD changes the way we look at everything and everyone.

The joy of the LORD is our spirit registering that God is joyful over us. Same with love.

Thanks, Ian. I needed to hear that.
