Your word is a lamp unto my feet

December 21, 2010

and a light unto my path. Psalm 119:105

It’s either His word will be a lamp to our feet and a light to our path, or something else will – someone else’s word.

Who did hinder you that you should not obey the truth?

December 21, 2010

You did run well; who did hinder you that you should not obey the truth? This persuasion comes not of him that calls you. A little leaven leavens the whole lump. Galatians 5:7-9

A person comes amongst the brethren who becomes a hindrance, causing them not to obey the truth. When a person has such an influence: that is, the effect of their teaching is to cause believers, who were previously running well, to not obey the truth, such a person is bad leaven/yeast. Their influence will spread very wide unless they are stopped. This is one reason that God ordained a plural eldership for each Church, so that the brothers together can be under-shepherds of the Good Shepherd, and deal with such people. And they will have to deal with men who try to become “the pastor” over the assembly. The elders will recognize that such a man is bad leaven, for he prides himself that he is superior to the other elders.

Bad leaven causes the brethren to not obey the truth. Good leaven causes the brethren to obey the truth.

If Christians today are not obeying the truth, it is bcos they have been influenced by such people, as Paul warns about.

The world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world

December 20, 2010

But God forbid that I should glory, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision avails anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.
Galatians 6:14-16

Only the new creation avails anything.

Your affections are not with the things that be of God, but those that be of men

December 20, 2010

From that time forth began Jesus to show unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from you, Lord: this shall not be unto you. But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get you behind me, Satan: you are an offense unto me: for your affections are not with the things that be of God, but those that be of men. Matthew 16:21-23

Any person who’s affections are not with the things of God, but with the things of men, is an offense to Jesus.

Praise God that Peter was changed and converted, and was no longer an offense to Jesus.

and what can we do? We can seek the LORD with all our hearts and live for Him, and be vessels of the Holy Spirit. And as the world falls apart preach the everlasting gospel.

The sin of WITHHOLDING the truth

December 19, 2010

But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for you neither go in yourselves, neither do you allow them that are entering to go in. Matthew 23:13

The Church In The Home ~ Rolfe Barnard

December 18, 2010

It is a matter of history that for the first two hundred years after Christ the church never had special buildings of their own, and when at last they did the art of exhortation degenerated into the issuing of commands. Many groups which began in homes and have now become well-known organizations have lost out in spiritual effectiveness since they moved into special buildings for their gatherings. This has not happened suddenly. A special building is not a sin but merely a sincere effort to glorify God, which may ultimately involve more drawbacks than advantages…

If any man will do His will, he shall KNOW…

December 17, 2010

Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. He that speaks of himself seeks his own glory: but he that seeks his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him. John 7:16-18

A principle here is that knowledge of the Kingdom of God is given in the measure that a man desires to do the will of God. If any man will do his will, he shall know… If any man really desires to do the will of God, he shall know…

We see this all the time, these days. We wonder why so many Christians are barren in their understanding of the Kingdom of Christ, then we note that they have already made up their minds that they will only do the will of God if it is convenient for them, or fits in with their plans. They have preset their minds. They struggle with the commands of the Apostles, and their example. They see that to obey the NT pattern would be a hindrance to them achieving their goals, so they have rejected the revealed will of God for the church, in the NT.

That is why they can’t see or understand, and are given over to be occupied with things which don’t profit. ALL bcos they do not will to do His will. They’ve made up their minds that the revealed will of God for the church in the NT won’t serve their purpose and dreams, so the revelation of the Holy Spirit is cut off from them. For God only shares His things with those who will to do His will. He will not share with those who have decided not to do His will.

So, then, knowledge of God is NOT something that just anyone can seek out, and study for, and reach to. Why? Bcos it ALL hinges on whether a person is pre-committed to DO His will. Someone says, The NT pattern won’t work today, and I’m not called to lay down my life for others as the Apostles did, BUT I want to learn the things of God! He is fooling himself. Unless he is pre-committed to DO the revealed will of God, what will he learn? Nothing. God searches the hearts. He won’t fill such a person with continuous revelation of the Kingdom. But such a person will be left to their own imaginations, and by their own intellectual effort will try and figure out the things of God.

So, the qualifier to know the things of God has nothing to do with any sort of ability, but it ALL rests upon whether a person truly desires to do the will of God over their own will. For God supplies grace to DO His will, and not for any other reason. And this is why there is such a drought of the Word of God, and a barrenness of the knowledge of Jesus Christ, in these days.

All shall know me, from the least to the greatest

December 16, 2010

For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: And they shall not teach every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. Hebrews 8:10-12

This is the New Covenant, and this is the Church. The way it’s supposed to be is exactly this: that ALL should know the LORD, from the least to the greatest. But the Church system is not about ALL knowing Him, is it? It’s many times about trying to manage and keep entertained, and trying to ease the nerves and guilty consciences of many who don’t know the LORD.

Starry, starry night

December 16, 2010

And He [God] brought him [Abraham] forth outside, and said, Look now toward heaven, and count the stars, if you be able to number them: and He said unto him, So shall your descendants be. And he [Abraham] believed in the LORD; and He [God] counted it to him for righteousness. Genesis 15:5-6

He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what He had promised, He was able also to perform. And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. Romans 4:20-22

God counts our faith as righteousness. And if we don’t believe that salvation is THAT simple, then we don’t have any faith.

Global warming wreaking havoc

December 15, 2010

across Europe and North America! with record snow falls and blizzards!

The world feels safer with finding a natural explanation to the catastrophic extremes in weather, than the other alternative, that they are sinners in the hands of an angry God ; That the Bible IS actually true, that God’s wrath will be poured out over all the earth before Jesus comes.

The Father puts the faith of Jesus in our hearts

December 12, 2010

and then He draws this faith out of us by arranging hardship and adversity for us to face. He will always have us in a place of trusting Him, walking by faith and not by sight.

Team Ministry

December 12, 2010

(I hesitate to use the word “ministry”, cos these days it tends to mean something different than the NT meaning)

Open-air preaching, as a team, is one way. Certainly Biblical. More Christians should support it and take part, than they currently do.

Another way is to go in two’s, or more, and just walk around the city centers, prayerfully, and trust the Holy Spirit to lead you to those whom He is preparing for salvation. It’s the idea of “being available” and being ready, to be an instrument of the LORD, doing the work of an evangelist. He will point out different folks who are just hanging out, and who would be open to a friendly person talking with them. As the team doing this grows, then you can congregate back at a point, like a public seating area, and then teaching can happen in an informal way. Real friendships can form. They’ll find out you don’t have a selfish agenda, that you really love them. Young people may come around and ask questions… etc..

Jesus Christ conforms us to Him

December 11, 2010

but He never conforms Himself to us. The modern gospel tries to conform Christ to what is not of Him.

God lifts the repentant believing sinner up into glory, to be seated together with Christ in heaven. Not the other way around, which is to create your own god who will come down and bless you in your sin.

The God of Israel is He that gives strength and power unto His people

December 11, 2010

O God, you are awesome out of your holy places: the God of Israel is He that gives strength and power unto His people. Blessed be God. Psalm 68:35

Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who only does wondrous things. And blessed be His glorious name forever: and let the whole earth be filled with His glory; Amen, and Amen. Psalm 72:18-19

That man has any intelligence at all

December 10, 2010

is simply testimony to the fact that he bears the image of his Creator, who is infinitely intelligent. He inherited a tiny, tiny fraction of God’s intelligence.

When i try to ponder the facts concerning the universe, i remember that God is infinite in His knowledge : the very source of all intelligence and knowledge, and He lives in the Blood-redeemed people of His Son.

The son of perdition

December 10, 2010

With the term “the son of perdition”, it sounds to me like a parallel or mirror term to “the Son of God” : God having a Son, and the dragon, satan, also having “a son”.

“The son of perdition” alludes to a counterfeit of the Son of God. As God became incarnate, the devil tries to “incarnate” himself in a man (but he can’t in the same way that Jesus became a Man).

In this way, the Harlot has an important part to play to prepare the world for this man, for if he is a counterfeit Christ, then, that assumes that the world is already familiar with the claims of Jesus, as the Son of God, in order for them to receive a counterfeit.
