Having the character of Christ

July 23, 2011

2 Peter 1:2-8

What kind of person does the Father intend to make you into? One who has the character of Christ.

Think about what are the essential attributes of Jesus : what kind of Person – what kind of Man is He? He wants to make us into the exact kind of person, in terms of character.

Yesterday, was thinking about how today many would agree with what i just said, BUT their practical understanding of what type of person they should be is a little fuzzy, and even esoteric. For example, think of Jesus faithfulness : Do we expect Christians today to have that same quality of faithfulness, both to God and to one another?

What i mean by an esoteric understanding is where people think they are becoming like Jesus, but in the practicalities of their character are FAR from being like Him. Like, the person who claims to have spiritual experiences with Jesus, but they really don’t care about anyone except themselves : Or people caught up in “revival” but their practical character is little changed : they still really only look out for number one and do not lay down their lives for the brethren.

The work of the Holy Spirit is overwhelmingly focused on changing our character and forming the character of Christ in us. Counterfeit spirits bypass this and emphasize ecstatic experiences as being the main thing.

But if all prophesy

July 22, 2011

and there come in one that believes not, or one unlearned, he is convicted of all, he is judged of all: And thus

are the secrets of his heart made manifest

; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.

How is it then, brethren? [ Paraphrased: This is the deal ] when you come together, every one of you has a psalm, has a doctrine, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying. If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that in turn; and let one interpret. But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.

Let the prophets speak two or three………….

and let the others judge. If anything be revealed to another that sits by, let the first hold his peace. For you may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted. 1 Corinthians 14:24-31

This is the way Church was always supposed to be.

Let ALL HEAR the word of the LORD and obey His word.

Most won’t cos it won’t further their career.

Gleanings from the Cross

July 20, 2011

We would do well to acknowledge that crucifixion is arguably the most diabolical thing one human being could inflict upon another. It’s a horror. No movie can simulate the horror of the physical suffering of it, let alone the depths of despair our LORD endured spiritually : a death worse than normal death : dying the corporate death of the whole human race.

In this way, the diabolical nature of the Cross : that men could be so evil as to devise and carry out such evil on their fellow man, speaks of what the Cross means. It witnesses that man IS evil. And that the Blood of Christ, His Sacrifice, His Propitiation, is the ONLY answer to this evil, to wash men from their sins, and to deliver them the power of sin and satan : transforming them into the image of God’s Son.

Father, glorify your name (Part 2)

July 19, 2011

Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour. Father, glorify your name. Then there came a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again. John 12:27-28

At this terrible juncture in His life, our LORD Jesus looks to His Father and declares that He lives and even dies for the glory of the Father. Not, Father save me from this, but, Father, glorify your name.

Following in Jesus footsteps we face a similar (but much less intense) situation. How much DO WE REALLY CARE that the Father is glorified in our life? Are we focused on self-preservation, or do we exclusively desire that the Father glorify His name?

Note the intense desire of our LORD. We should have some measure of that by virtue of His life in us.

And note that all the weight and emphasis is on the Father glorifying His name, and not on us glorifying His name. Only the Father CAN glorify His name. By ourselves, we can’t. If we desire this with all our hearts and can believe, then He does glorify His name in our lives. We should be looking to the Father, for Him to glorify His name. This should be priority one.

God forbid we should ever desire to glorify our own name.

Feed my lambs, feed my sheep

July 18, 2011

John 21:15-17

What would it have been like if Peter had ignored Jesus command to feed His lambs and His sheep?

What if Peter had ignored that command and went off and started “Simon Peter Ministries” and began merchandizing EVERYTHING BUT that which feeds Jesus sheep? Things which do not feed the sheep? Wouldn’t he have to answer to Jesus for that?

But many of us feel we will not need to answer to Jesus over whether we fed His sheep?

And the “feeding” was to be done by personal contact and sacrificial relationships, personally serving. But today, “ministry” means EVERYTHING BUT what it originally meant.

What Jesus commanded Peter on that day applies to every disciple of Jesus, in some measure. Not all are teachers, but every disciple must be a teacher, in some measure.

For by this time you ought to be teachers, [but] you have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of solid food. For every one that uses milk is unskillful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. Hebrews 5:12-13

…Unskillful in the word of righteousness…

Jewish people expecting Messiah

July 18, 2011

with the veil still over their hearts (2 Cor 3:14-16). They are getting set up to be fooled by a false messiah. This is an indicator of just how close we are to the LORD’s coming.

A letter from hell

July 17, 2011

This message is loaded with faulty assumptions, BUT the tangible reality of hell, as the real destination of people we know and meet every day, comes thru. Yes, we ARE responsible to preach and warn, but we are only responsible to obey the Holy Spirit. We could all be more awakened and quickened to the seriousness of the Gospel.

In real life, if a believer was such bosum friends with an unbeliever, and they did everything together; that is, all the things that unbelievers love to do, then it shows that the believer wasn’t a believer at all. This is one of the weaknesses of the story.

I want a ministry!

July 16, 2011

The whole world is your congregation, so what are you waiting for?

I wasn’t thinking of that kind of thing.

Then what kind of ministry did you have in mind?

Reason must have a reason

July 16, 2011

Unless people acknowledge there is a reason for the universe to exist; that is, that it originated by the reason and cause of a Creator, then they have no reason: they are adrift from reason. If the universe has no reason, no cause, then there is no such thing as reason, or intelligence. As God said, they are fools.

Atheists do have the ability to reason, but, to them, there is no reason for that ability to reason : there is no reason for their reason. That ability was some accident, which spontaneously self-created out of a vacuum.

The entrance of your words gives light

it gives understanding unto the simple. Psalm 119:130

We must never forget that the whole world sits in darkness, and only the Word of God can bring light to those in the darkness.

A merry dance around the Scriptures

July 15, 2011

You know the Mexican hat dance, where they place a hat on the ground and dance all around it without stepping on it?

That’s exactly how i see many on the internet treat the Scriptures. They quote a Scripture, then lead you on a merry dance all around it, with some impressive foot work and moves, and they DO avoid stepping on it : that is, avoid facing up to what that Scripture actually says. I’m learning to switch off sooner so i don’t join in the merry dance and waste my time. Such people are dishonest.

That’s not your job

July 15, 2011

The other day i was going to post something about Obama. Then the Holy Spirit spoke to my inner-man, That’s not your job!

It may be someone else’s, but if it is, that’s not my business. Our business is to do the will of Him who called us.

The anointing destroys the yoke of bondage, right?

July 15, 2011

And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off your shoulder, and his yoke from off your neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing. Isaiah 10:27

Yes, the raw power of God delivered the Israelites from the oppression of their enemies. The yoke of oppression was destroyed by the anointing.

Will people today be delivered from sin and the devil in the same way that Israel was delivered from her enemies, simply by the raw power of God?

Then said Jesus to those Jews who believed on him, If you continue in my word, then are you my disciples indeed; And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. John 8:31-32

The raw power of the anointing ACCOMPANIES the truth. If you continue in His word you shall know the truth and only thru knowing the truth shall the raw power of God’s anointing attend you and empower you to be free from the power of sin and the devil.

A major part of the endtime delusion is the belief that the power of the anointing comes without knowing the truth; that it is just a force which is transfered to people, and not thru submitting to a Person, Christ Jesus.

A day in the life of Paul

July 15, 2011

For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwells no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. Now if I do that which I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwells in me. Romans 7:18-20

Some people take this to mean that Paul sinned every day. They hope that is what it means, so that their own sins don’t look so bad – if even the great Apostle sinned every day.

But does Paul mean by this, that on any given day we could expect to find him lusting after women, lying, covetous, greedy, self-centered….. living like a typical carnal Christian today? Would we find Paul like that? And he answers, Hey, the evil I don’t want to do, that I do! So what do you expect? That’s why I lust and cheat and lie and live for my own lust! And then I preach to others not to do these things!

Obviously, he doesn’t mean that.

And Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day. Acts 23:1

Or, we could look at a day in the life of John, who said, If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 1 John 1:8

What were your sins today, John?

Bondage to sin and deception

July 14, 2011

are essentially the same, and inseparable. Anyone in bondage to sin is deceived, and anyone deceived is in bondage to sin.
