Our family enjoyed this movie on NYE.

“Over the water to Charlie” – classic.

“Spurgeon smoking a pipe was an invention of the media”.

His response to Darwinism was to preach a sermon titled, “The Gorilla” – classic.
“Some people misinterpreted my confidence in the LORD as pride”

Charlie made a precious contribution to the body of Christ.

His emphasis on looking to Jesus for everything, and making Him everything, and making Him known, really touched me.

God has been restoring the NT pattern progressively. He has revealed things concerning the restoration in these days which were not revealed to Charlie.

If Charlie were to come back today to plant a church we wouldn’t all want to go to his church and for him to be our celebrity pastor. We would hope that many would not relate to him now in the same way that people related to him then.

How Charlie handled the disaster that happened, when people got crushed in the false alarm of fire in the building, and then later, the “downgrade controversy” : while he was honest and real about it, and about how he felt, still it appears to me that he allowed satan too much advantage, to keep him in depression for extended periods of time. That should not be. We are not immune from such buffetings, but it aint right to stay that way for any length of time.

I like the movies that use the scriptures!

The Holy Spirit can definitely use these movies to spur us to think and relate to the Scripture narrative in a more realistic, true to the historical reality, way (even though many details are inaccurate). It gives us a feel for what it was like to be there, and what they faced, and how they related to God.

When you see David it makes you think how dreadful the reality of the dangers they faced, how they had to fight for their lives, and do it by faith in the God of Israel. It makes our ‘battles’ look so petty.

David wrote the Psalms cos he actually had a testimony, actually had something to sing and shout about.

Also, you see how irrevokable the Word of the LORD is.
