Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, That you be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, that the day of the Lord is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come the falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed,

NOTE: TWO CONDITIONS/PREREQUISITES BEFORE JESUS CAN RETURN: 1) THE FALLING AWAY – THE APOSTATIZING OF CHRISTIANITY. 2) THE ANTICHRIST IS REVEALED.

PAUL IS SAYING, DON’T LET ANYONE FOOL YOU THAT JESUS WILL COME BEFORE THE MAN OF SIN IS REVEALED.

THE NEXT BIG EVENT IN THE WORLD IS THE REVEALING OF THE “MAN OF SIN” AND NOT JESUS COMING.

…the son of perdition; Who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God, or that is worshiped; so that he as God sits in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. Do you not remember, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? And now you know what restrains that he might be revealed in his time. For the mystery of iniquity does already work: only he who now restrains will do so, until he be taken out of the way. And then shall that Wicked One be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the breath of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deception of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them a strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be condemned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

    (2 Thessalonians 2:1-12)

IF YOU DON’T LOVE THE TRUTH THEN GOD WILL GIVE YOU A STRONG DELUSION TO BELIEVE A LIE, AND THAT LIE WILL BE THAT THE COMING WORLD LEADER WILL BE GOD: “… he as God sits in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.”

“…whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders…”

THIS IS A SPIRITUAL LEADER WHO IS CONFIRMED BY SUPERNATURAL SIGNS.

BE AWARE THAT THE CHRISTIAN WORLD IS BEING CONDITIONED RIGHT NOW (THE TIME OF THE FALLING AWAY) TO RECEIVE THE ANTICHRIST AS GOD.

ANY PREACHER WHO DOES NOT HELP YOU HAVE “THE LOVE OF THE TRUTH” IS ACTUALLY BEING USED TO CONDITION YOU TO RECEIVE THE ANTICHRIST.

    From my Facebook page:

James Anderson: Ian, these verses are talking about the “day of the Lord”, which is the Tribulation period and then the return of the Lord to the earth to reign. The next big event is not the revealing of “the Man of Sin” but the rapture of the church to meet Christ in the air. This is when the one who restrains is taken out. The restrainer is the Holy Spirit as indwells the Church. “And now you know what restrains that he might be revealed in his time.”

Ian Vincent: I disagree bro. Paul says that two things must happen BEFORE “…the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him…” 2Th 2:1. The “gathering together unto Him” is the rapture. So, two things must happen first before the rapture. ……………The nature of Paul’s warning is this: That we are not to believe people when they say that the Church will be raptured before the Antichrist is revealed.

James Anderson: ‎”that the DAY OF THE LORD is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means: for THAT DAY shall not come, except there come the falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed…”
My understanding is that the church received a false letter to the church stating that the gathering (rapture of the Church) had taken place and that they should now expect “The Day on the Lord” the last three and a half years of tribulation. His reference was to this last period of Tribulation. He then reminded them of what was restraining the revealing of the Anti-Christ. If this is interpreted the way that you do then the doctrine of Imminecy would not be valid. Christ could not return at any moment in time.

James Anderson: Good discussion though. It makes me think.

Ian Vincent: James, you skipped the first few verses where Paul says to the Thessalonians that the rapture is not imminent, only after two events take place

James Anderson: I addressed it in my answer. I do not think that the letter was entirely about the rapture but about all the events. In typical Jewish style he did not take it all in chrono logical order.

James Anderson: So, Ian, you do not look to the sky everyday with expectant eyes because you know he can’t come for His Church at any time.

Ian Vincent: He could take me, you or anyone at anytime. I long for His coming. He will come IN HIS OWN TIME. I trust in that fact, that He is coming in His time, and not when mere men think He should come.

“Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, That you be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, that the day of the Lord is at hand. People were saying the rapture could happen anytime, and Paul clarified that it can only happen after these two events.

James Anderson: You must mean by death “He could take me, you or anyone at anytime.” I agree he will come in his own time. I think that we must agree to disagree. I have put forth my arguments and you yours. You don’t believe in the Doctrine of Imminence which has always been taught in Scripture.

Ian Vincent: I just quoted what Paul said in these verses. I won’t go beyond that.

Ian Vincent: The truth of “immanency” in Scripture is a very real fact, that men should fear God when they consider that He could take their soul from them at any time, and require them to give an account:

“And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, You fool, this night your soul shall be required of you: then whose shall those things be, which you have prepared?” (Luke 12:19-20)

Ian Vincent: On whether Paul believed the rapture was imminent in his lifetime, we can see that he didn’t believe that (in addition to 2 Thess 2) as he spoke about a future time for the Church after his departing:

2 Tim 3:1 “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come”.

2Tim 4:6 “For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.”

Peter also knew that the rapture would not happen until at least after he was gone:

“Yea, I think it right, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance; Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ has showed me. Moreover I will endeavor that you may be able after my departure to have these things always in remembrance.” (2 Peter 1:13-15)

Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come the falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed…”

Why would believing Christians be “shaken in mind, or be troubled” when someone told them that the rapture could happen anytime? Weren’t they looking forward to the rapture? It doesn’t make sense, right? Paul is not expecting them to be troubled by the fact that Jesus is coming and there will be a rapture. What he is warning them about is concerning the possibility that some could claim that Jesus secretly raptured out His “elite” and the rest got left behind. If they believed that they would be devastated, so Paul clarifies to them that two events must take place first, so that no one could deceive them by saying the rapture has already happened. If the Antichrist has not been revealed, then the rapture has not happened yet. That’s the whole point of Paul’s warning.

Paul refers to this same issue here:

“And their word will eat as does a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus; Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.”
    (2Tim 2:17-18)

And if Christians believe they will be raptured out before the Antichrist is revealed, then it’s possible they could take the mark of the beast thinking that it couldn’t be the Antichrist bcos the rapture has not yet happened.

And when Christians see all the great celebrities of the Christian world taking the mark of the beast, and their heroes which they watch on Christian TV taking the mark and reassuring everyone that it’s OK bcos the rapture has not yet happened, then they may think it’s OK. They may have already been conditioned to just blindly accept anything which TV preachers say. If a person is totally convinced that they will be raptured before the mark of the beast comes then its possible they may take it. Hopefully they will realize they were wrong and not take the mark.

If Christians have been told that they will be raptured before the mark of the beast comes, then what will stop them taking the mark?

For, according to what they’ve been told, it couldn’t possibly be the mark of the beast, so no danger in taking it.

Of course, then many will realize that they were wrong and not take the mark.

On the doctrine of “immanency” :

Just the fact alone that the NT is chockablock full of predictive/future prophecies, cancels out the doctrine of “immanency” , for either these prophecies concerning the future are the inspired Word of God, or they are not.

If they are the Word of God then Jesus can’t come, and couldn’t come, until they are fulfilled, yes?

Just think, when the Book of Revelation was written, and someone came up to John and said, “Jesus could return today”, then what would John have said to him? “Didn’t you read the prophecy? He can’t come until certain things are fulfilled.”

    That should settle the matter.
