Just the fact that Jesus says, Ask and you shall receive, is amazing. God our Father is inviting us to ask Him to do things. He asks, “What do you want me to do for you?” What things are you asking God to do for you today?
Some may ask, Wasn’t God taking a risk, by openly inviting us to ask Him to do things for us, and give us things, in that then we could begin to treat Him as our servant, as a “genie in a bottle”, who is only there to grant us our wishes?
But this was God’s genius to teach us to live by faith in Him. Sure, we may sometimes ask amiss: You ask, and receive not, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it upon your lusts. (James 4:3) ; But the process of asking and receiving is SO important as it leads us into engagement with Him so that we come to rightly depend on Him.
Show me a person who doesn’t ask God, daily, for many things, and I will show you a person of little faith. If a person has faith in themselves then they feel they don’t need to have faith in God, and they can do everything by themselves, and that way take the credit and get the glory.
But a person who has faith in God doesn’t want any glory for themselves, and they only want to do things according to God’s will, and by His grace and power:
And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us: And if we know that he hears us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we desired of him.
(1 John 5:14-15)
If you pray, God will do it.
