Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins, and not one of them is forgotten before God? But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: you are of more value than many sparrows. Luke 12:6-7
Consider that God cares about sparrows. We don’t care much about sparrows but God does. We would barely care to notice if a sparrow dies, but God notices. When we think of God as great and all powerful we would do well to also consider how great His capacity is to love and care for us, and sparrows: to care for nearly 7 billion people at one time: to know each one of them intimately and care for every one of them.
I don’t know how many billion sparrows there are, but the Father sees and notes when any of them die. The Lord Jesus wanted us to consider that, so we should take the time to consider it.
And we have to take it literally that the Father really does know how many hairs are on our head. It’s not that He is interested so much in hair, rather, the person beneath the hair! He wants us to consider that He is great enough to care for even you and me. No one is forgotten. No one is overlooked. Do you believe this?
So therefore we should not think of God as being someone like us, like: I don’t care too much for sparrows so therefore God doesn’t – I don’t care much for people, therefore God doesn’t. It’s a big mistake when we try and make God into our own image, but if we follow Jesus we will be made into His image. Rom. 8:29, 1 Cor. 15:49, 2 Cor. 3:18, Col. 3:10
