Do not get caught up in the things of this world … and not only ungodly things … but do not allow even your godly commitments to distract you from doing the will of God.
This is not easy for the married person (1 Corinthians 7:28).
The greater point here seems to be this: “No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier,” (2 Timothy 2:4; Galatians 5:1; 2 Peter 2:20).
It is easier said than done …

In contemporary Christian culture the above verses just wouldn’t translate.
The modern trend is to embrace the opposite, to travel in the opposite direction but thinking they are following Jesus.
