A comment i made on FB: There are true spiritual experiences from the Holy Spirit, but it’s not accurate to describe this true experience as “feeling the presence of God” as in a transient experience or a sensual (5 senses) experience. I’ve met Baptists who have no way to relate to a testimony of the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and on the other hand met plenty of people with counterfeit experiences, and some with true experiences and true gifts.
Definitions also matter. In one sense, everything of the Holy Spirit is a spiritual experience. To know the love of God is a spiritual experience. To understand and receive revelation of the truth is a spiritual experience, and yet it’s not a sensual one. In one sense, how could the One true Living God come to live in a person and they have no spiritual experience? It gets messy due to the fact that people experiencing counterfeit things usually have never had a true spiritual encounter with God.
I would go so far as to say that the ministry of the Holy Spirit, or the Spirit of Christ indwelling us, our spiritual UNION with Christ, means we can experience God even when we don’t feel God.
Let’s repeat: Our spiritual UNION with Christ means we can experience God even when we don’t feel God.
“The Spirit itself BEARS WITNESS WITH OUR SPIRIT, that we are the children of God.” (Romans 8:16)
