Nearly extinct

Prophesying in church

Referring to 1 Cor. 14, prophesying was the central or pivotal component of the early church meeting or gathering. Now, the text reveals it wasn’t preplanned sermons, and it also wasn’t simply people getting up and predicting the future, it was, however, something received from the Lord, it was a powerful word from God for His people, and it was anticipated to come thru any member of the body of Christ.

Let’s not have a condescending view of this, like, “Oh, that was nice for them, back in those days, when things were different!” Let’s have the authentic love and respect for God inasmuch as we endeavor to DO what He says – yes, let’s do what it says in 1 Cor. 14.

It will mean we are in a place with God where we hear His voice strongly enough to be able to convey what He is saying to the churches. What we see described in 1 Cor. 14 is only possible where there is a nucleus of believers in an assembly who are in tune to authentically hearing God every day, as a way of life.

I think it’s nearly extinct, but not extinct.
