Why you are strong

We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification. For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me.
(Romans 15:1-3)

We see here a divine principle: God is strong, and out of His strength He bears the weaknesses of the weak – shows forbearance to the weak (people like us). The nature of His strength is such that it finds expression in His authority to be forbearing and patient – that’s true divine authority. Forgiveness, then, is such a high expression of authority.

Then, we are asked to do the same. If we are strong, it is so that we can bear the infirmities of the weak, and be patient with all.

And this is how we know whether we’re strong or not, by how patient we are.
