The god of this world

But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.  (2 Corinthians 4:3-4)

Here we have two “Gods” mentioned: The “god of this world” and another, the true God, Christ being the “image of God”.

Who is the “god of this world”, then, if he’s a different “god” to God? It’s satan, the devil, Lucifer, whatever you want to call him.

Why then does the Bible say that the devil is the “god of this world”?

The answer may be hard for you to swallow. It means that people in all the religions of the world who think they are worshiping God are, in reality, worshiping a “god” who is not God, and who is, in fact, the devil.

But no one in their right mind would think they are worshiping the devil? True. They think they are worshiping God, but because of their sin the devil holds them as his own, and makes them think they are worshiping God when they aren’t. It’s called deception. See the text again, the “god of this world has blinded them”.

There’s no religion on earth which can forgive all your sins, give you assurance of eternal life and recreate you into a new person on the inside. Jesus Christ is the only one who promised this, and who can do it.
