This is a repost:
In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will (Ephesians 1:11)
Was thinking about Abraham. God chooses one man out of millions, then sends him off to another country to live. Why Abraham? God wanted him. Were there others just as suitable? Probably. Why go to Canaan? God wanted that. God could have sent Abraham anywhere, to China, or India, He could have set up Jerusalem in the center of Australia, and made the Aborigines to be the Jewish people…. IF He wanted to. But He didn’t want to.
What makes the Land of Israel special is only the fact that God chose that land. What made Abraham special was the fact that God chose him. What makes the Jewish people special is that God chose them. Nothing else. This is the glory of God.
There’s perhaps few other divine truths which so assault and insult the pride of man as this, to encounter a God who does what He wants, and not what man thinks He should do. Our pride needs to be assaulted and put to death. True children of Abraham submit to God’s choosing and will. They may struggle, at times, to accept it, but they agree He has the right to do as He wills.
