The covenant aspect of divine love

Here’s some thoughts on the covenant aspect of divine love:

A couple of years back a classic rocker ditched his wife after thirty years of marriage, and she wrote a heartbreaking song, “When did you stop loving me?”

This is not covenantal love.

“Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the church.”

Covenantal love. A love which can never end.

“Love one another, fervently,” in the Assembly.

People drift from church to church a little like our rock star who one day decided he no longer loved his wife. The “love” could be very superficial indeed if there’s no lifetime commitment to people as truly your brothers or sisters.

But a church which is a rock concert is not the kind of environment where anything other than superficial could take root.

The issue with fellowship, with assembling as the church, is covenantal love.

Yes, it’s a cliche, we are “family” and yet let’s try and experience this IN Christ, the reality as He sees it, as He establishes it.
