Under grace, not under law.

Those who are born again and filled with the Spirit know how “it works”.

The Holy Spirit leads them to live a holy life.

But without the Holy Spirit you can’t live a holy life, no matter how much you try and keep the law.

The Holy Spirit EMPOWERS holiness.

The law, in itself, does not give us the power to fulfill it.

The purpose of the law is to show us we are sinners and need a Savior.

The law is powerless to set us free from sin.

Every legalist you meet is still bound by the power of sin.

Legalism doesn’t produce victory over sin.

So… we obtain the Holy Spirit and His power by grace, through faith in Jesus Christ.

“The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law.

But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

“What purpose then does the law serve? It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was appointed through angels by the hand of a mediator.”

“All things work together for good” means God is ruling over all situations and circumstances, and ruling over the devil and his power.

His rule over everything does not mean He is the cause of evil, or makes people commit evil, but it means, concerning His elect, that God will work what happens for good, as He is able to do this, whether people have the faith to believe it or the understanding to comprehend it.

Every atom is held together by His word.

He is greater than anyone can possibly imagine.

This is proof the rapture and resurrection doesn’t happen until after the Beast is in power.

If the rapture and resurrection took place before the Beast comes, then there would need to be a second resurrection for these mentioned here who are martyred by the Beast.

We are what we are, in Christ, purely by the grace of God, and, if we sin it’s not because the grace of God failed us. We failed, not God. Jesus never loses sheep. If you sin and backslide it doesn’t prove you never knew Jesus or were never saved or never had the Holy Spirit. It doesn’t mean Jesus failed to keep His sheep. It means we have a choice every moment as to whom we will serve, and we can either surrender to the power and grace of the Holy Spirit, or resist the Spirit.

Reconcile these two truths:

1. “But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.” (1 Cor. 15:10)
2. “But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.” (1 Cor. 9:27)

(By the way, “discipline my body” doesn’t mean self flagellation or asceticism. It means to be in control of the body’s demands)

The point is, self control, choice and responsibility can’t be abdicated to the grace of God. If we sin, we can’t say the grace of God was not sufficient to keep us from sinning, we are responsible for what we do or don’t do.

This suggests that if we are anxious about something, then, instead of remaining anxious about it we should talk to the Lord about it and ask Him to take away the anxiety and provide grace or a solution to the problem, and replace the anxiety with His peace.

But it doesn’t suggest that we should only pray if or when we are anxious.

Notes on the Rapture

“Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep (die) but we shall all be changed – in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.” (1 Cor. 15:51-52)

“For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep (who died).

For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.

Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.” (1 Thess. 4:15-17)

Here is the order:

1. The last trumpet sounds.
2. The resurrection of the righteous.
3. Believers caught up into the sky (‘Rapturo’ in Latin) to be with those resurrected and with the Lord.

a. The “last” Trumpet indicates there are others preceding it, but no others after it. Seven Trumpet blasts are described in Revelation chapter 8.

d. There is only one resurrection of the righteous. It simultaneously occurs when the believers are caught up in the sky. The resurrection of the unrighteous happens after Christ rules the earth one thousand years: Rev. 20:4-6.

e. In Rev. 20:4 we see that those martyred during the time of the Antichrist are included in this first resurrection, which happens when believers are caught up into the sky. This is proof the catching up will not take place until after the Antichrist has killed believers (but not all, for many remain until the catching up).

f. If there were a catching up into the sky before the Antichrist, then, that would mean there are two resurrections of the righteous. But there is reference to only one resurrection of the righteous in scripture.

Comment on Matthew 25:1-13

The “virgins” represent Christians: Half are wise and the other half foolish. Only the wise Christians are ready to meet Jesus when He returns. And to the foolish Christians Jesus will say, “I don’t know you!” and they will be left behind and shut out of Heaven.

The foolish Christians’ light went out because they ran out of oil, a symbol of the Holy Spirit. Had they lived wisely, in communion with the Spirit, they would have had enough oil to keep their lamps burning bright and light their way. Any form of foolishness or neglectfulness toward God in Christians is sufficient grounds to receive a warning not to be one of the “foolish virgins”, who will be left behind when Jesus unexpectedly comes like a thief in the night. The parable is a warning not to be a foolish Christian, not to exchange your birthright for the flesh, like Esau did.

The designation the Lord gives is either “foolish” or “wise” Christian. We can judge ourselves as to which category we are in, so we won’t be judged.

“Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’

But he answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ “

(Matthew 25:11-12)

The whole parable hinges on this truth: the wise Christians knew the Lord Jesus, and the foolish ones didn’t.

If people don’t know the Lord, then He declares He doesn’t know them.

So, here we have the tension in this passage.

The foolish ones thought they knew Him because they called Him, Lord!

Yet they didn’t really know the Lord, even though they called Him, Lord!

We wouldn’t want to live this life as though this were the only life there is.

Things which might seem meaningful to us might not be so meaningful to Jesus Christ our Lord.

The meaning of something finds its true meaning in what it means to God.

The Bible is truly the word of God.

If you were God, wouldn’t you want your people to have all the truth they needed to know about you written down in a book written by you, so then they would definitively and surely know what you are like, what you promised, and what you require?

You wouldn’t want people to have their own imaginings about these things, or follow what others have imagined, rather, you would write it down and settle it once and for all, so all people can get the truth DIRECTLY from you, with no intermediaries.

That’s what God did.

Jesus said the whole Bible testifies of who He is.

He arranged for all the truth we need to know to be recorded for us.

So there’s no mistake what He meant and what He promised, and what He requires.

Someone might ask, If God gives His Spirit to all believers then there is no need for a Book?

But here’s the problem, you need the Book to know which is the Holy Spirit and which is another spirit. Otherwise, then, the truth becomes subjective, and it’s just whatever people feel it is.

The Holy Spirit wrote the Bible, so, obviously, He will point us to what He has written.

The Holy Spirit will never appeal to the Holy Spirit, but will appeal to the word of God which He inspired.

This is what Jesus taught: “It is written!”.

If it’s not “It is written”, then forget it.

How would we know that “God has spoken to us by His Son” if this truth were not written down and the text preserved till today?

That true Christians can survive and live in this present wicked world is a miracle of God’s grace, provision and protection.

Of course, all humans have a moral code, but after the truth of Jesus Christ is rejected then that code is upside down, and evil becomes good, and good, evil.

The more spiritual one thinks they are, the more blind they are.

People generally don’t think of God as a Person who has a mind. They tend to have an Eastern understanding, that God is some mythological or philosophical spirtual concept, and not an actual Person. Like “the force” in Star Wars.

They don’t understand that we are made in His image.

We are persons.

We are made in the image of this Person.

Get it?

This is not about lowering God to man’s standard.

It is understanding what exactly “made in the image of God” tells us about the God in whose image we are made.

The Lord Jesus related to His Father as a Person, not a force.

The Person of the Father spoke in the Hebrew language to the people present several times, saying, “This is my beloved Son…”.

The God of the Bible, whom Jesus said was His Father and was with from all eternity, is an intelligent being, which means He knows and understands everything. He maintains the lives of nearly 8 billion people all at the same time, as well as innumerable other creatures. We can’t fathom such a mind. That is off the charts computing power.

What about the Christian who accepts the authority of Scripture but ignores the example of the Apostles in how the early church functioned? They don’t see the example set by the Apostles as having any authority in itself.

A kingdom is a government and a domain. When you are born again you are transferred from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of Christ. Then, you are a subject of His kingdom and have a part or share in it, a stewardship, a participation, a responsibility, a portion, an inheritance.

This stewardship is now your business. You want to faithfully serve in the part of His kingdom allotted to you by the King. You certainly have no business anymore with the kingdom of darkness, which would be treason. And you have no business meddling with the stewardship of other members of the Kingdom. You are busy enough fulfilling your own stewardship, knowing you will have to answer for that, and not have to answer for someone else’s.

In the simplest terms it means Christianity doing a deal with the devil. It’s a cosy, mutually beneficial relationship: “Christians” get approval by the world, and the devil gets so many more subjects, who think they’re Christians. But this relationship comes to a bloody end because the devil terminates it by destroying the “woman”.

The lesson being, never make a deal with the devil.

What you compromise to gain you will end up losing.
