Priorities for “how to do church”

November 27, 2021

Regarding “how to do church”…

Priorities:

Number one priority: that the word of God is accurately taught.

Number two priority: the personal holiness, faith and love of the assembly members. (Which flows from accurately understanding the word of God)

Number three priority: that the pattern for church gatherings as shown in 1 Cor. 14 and elsewhere in the NT is followed. (And the pattern has a direct bearing on the maturity and spiritual growth of the assembly members)

I believe this is the order of priority as far as I can see in scripture.

My point being…

The method of doing church is very important, but it’s not the top priority.

The Burbs

November 26, 2021

Just imagine there was a civilization on a planet light years away, let’s call them the Burbs, and they evolved out of a few chemical elements into a mighty race, building great cities. They went about their life for millenia, then, in one moment, an asteroid hit their planet and they all died. Because they had no soul, or spirit, when they died they ceased to exist. No one on earth knew they existed, so no one knew they had vanished, and there was no one to mourn their passing. They didn’t even know they had vanished because they no longer exist. And, whatever these people amounted to, or accomplished is gone now, and there’s no one even to care that they ever existed at all, because no one knows. It’s as if they never existed.

This is the worldview of the brainwashed generation today: that life has no meaning. And, even if someone thinks their life has meaning, so what, it will all soon disappear and be forgotten forever.

No wonder the youth of today are so depressed, having been brainwashed into this quasi religion.

Jesus Christ is the meaning of life because in Him is life.

No one else can give you life.

And He can define your life, a life which never ends, a life where everything about you and what you do has eternal purpose and meaning in relation to your Creator.

Mass prayer in church?

November 22, 2021

Here is the scripture which I believe refutes mass prayer:

“Otherwise, if you bless with the spirit, how will he who occupies the place of the uninformed say “Amen” at your giving of thanks, since he does not understand what you say?

For you indeed give thanks well, but the other is not edified.”

(1 Corinthians 14:16-17)

The context is about someone speaking in tongues in a church meeting.

Others can’t understand what is being said so they are not edified and they can’t say ‘Amen’ to it.

Saying ‘Amen’ signifies agreement.

Jesus said if two or more agree concerning anything He will do it.

So, if there is mass prayer, everyone is praying at once, then, we can’t understand what others are praying so we can’t agree with their prayer.

This defeats the purpose of the church coming together to pray in agreement.

It is a confusion, and it is just as confusing as if the whole church was speaking in tongues at the same time.

So, let each person lead the church in a prayer, and the church listen thoughtfully and then, if they agree with the prayer, say ‘Amen’ in agreement, and then they have made the prayer their own prayer, and the whole assembly is praying in one accord, as one voice.

So, you have context, then, a principle from that context.

Conceptual thinking.

Many times people can’t apply principles because they don’t understand the concepts because they don’t think conceptually.

See Acts 4:24-31

24 So when they heard that, they raised their voice to God with one accord and said: “Lord, You are God, who made heaven and earth and the sea, and all that is in them,

25 who by the mouth of Your servant David have said: ‘Why did the nations rage, And the people plot vain things?

26 The kings of the earth took their stand, And the rulers were gathered together Against the LORD and against His Christ.’

27 “For truly against Your holy Servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together

28 to do whatever Your hand and Your purpose determined before to be done.

29 Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word,

30 by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus.”

31 And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness. unquote

So, here vs 24 says they “raised their voice to God in one accord”, and yet, the prayer of one person is recorded, verbatim.

It means one person led them in this prayer and they all agreed with the prayer, in one accord.

To agree with a prayer means you have prayed that same prayer, because when you say Amen, it is also your prayer.

Of course, this won’t work in many churches today because if someone leads in prayer, many are not really listening intently to the prayer and making it their own prayer.

Not many would be interested in what is being prayed.

We can tell that by when we try to talk with nominal Christians, they barely listen or take note of what you say, their heart and mind is not there, it’s in their own world.

If the whole assembly were just passively listening to someone pray then the assembly would not be all praying in one accord.

Perhaps they might sit passively because they’ve never been taught the Biblical concept of agreeing together in prayer as one voice?

There is also the factor I have observed when mass prayer is done that many are just babbling anything because they feel they have to when it is mass prayer.

So, this breeds superficiality.

Anything done to please others or out of fear of not conforming breeds superficiality and a weak conscience.

A Christian knows that it’s possible to have divine joy even in the midst of grief, sadness or pain, and this makes him an enigma.

…..

Christian, you can draw your encouragement directly from the LORD. Take the time to wait on Him.

No one knows and appreciates the true value of your life, except God.

However, the information on offer may not be the whole truth or the real facts. We need to discern between information, facts and spin.

A Christian needs to have the wisdom to know the difference between what he needs to know in order to be in touch with reality, and what he doesn’t need to know.

If he’s overburdened with what he doesn’t need to know he’s using up valuable mind space.

Political thugs who try to kill others on the street have to be man enough to face the fact that the person they are trying to kill might fight back and kill them.

While I in no way support vigilantism I find it hard to understand how those who burn down cities and terrorize folks could be morally opposed to someone resisting their violence, and for them to think it unfair that anyone would try to stop them?

Do they think they’re entitled to terrorize cities, so, therefore, any resistance to that is an infringement on their right to destroy cities?

Of course, the police should have protected the public, but due to the terrorists being political stooges of the Democrats they were allowed to run rampant.

Trying to build a racial divide by painting every issue as a racial issue? The aim is to polarize society even more. It is a dumbed down simplistic narrative which unthinking people can embrace because it doesn’t require any thinking.

……

We pray for others because we love them. If we didn’t love them we wouldn’t bother praying for them.

These days, superficial words have replaced the actual and real love of God.

Every claim to spiritual authority is bogus by virtue of the claim.

Looking at ancient civilizations, their belief systems were false and futile, and, oftentimes, died along with their civilization.

And this present civilization will be no different.

Holy joy springs from a holy life.

We could rightfully call out the big sins of society, yet, let’s consider that everyone has broken God’s laws, no matter how squeaky clean they present themselves, and is therefore guilty and in need of a Savior.

……

“But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.

38 For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark,

39 and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.

40 Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left.

41 Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left.

42 Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming.

43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into.

44 Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”

(Matthew 24:37-44)

Seems to point to a pre-wrath “taking” up, because, as it was in Noah’s day, the public will have no clue as to what is coming until the day that their friends are “taken”.

Bob and Sam will be working in the field. Suddenly, Sam shoots up into the sky.

Bob is traumatized by what he witnesses.

It’s only then that Bob realizes that God’s judgment and wrath is coming on the earth, because, until then, as it was in the days of Noah, he has no clue of what is coming.

If the wrath of God was poured out on the earth prior to the “taking” up of the disciples of Jesus then it would not be like the days of Noah, with life carrying on as usual.

And pre-wrath does not mean pre-antichrist.

One reason for this is, that if true Christians were taken up prior to the antichrist’s rule then the fact that multitudes would have witnessed this taking up makes it unlikely they could then be deceived by the antichrist, as they would surely know that this was foretold in the Bible and believe the Bible.

Would a revived church be one where the Holy Spirit speaks through most of the members of the body as He wills?

Yeah, you need “worship” leaders because people are so spiritually dead they don’t have a song in their heart they can lead the assembly in.

Contrived emotions from repetitive singing of emotional songs is not the presence of God nor the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

…….

‘Spiritually dead’ is a bit of a harsh thing to say!

Or, is it?

“And to the angel of the church in Sardis write, ‘These things says He who has the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars: “I know your works, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead.

2 Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die, for I have not found your works perfect before God.

3 Remember therefore how you have received and heard; hold fast and repent. Therefore if you will not watch, I will come upon you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you.

4 You have a few names even in Sardis who have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with Me in white, for they are worthy.

5 He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.

6 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” ’

(Revelation 3:1-6)

……

“And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.” (Acts 4:31)

Their boldness to speak the word of God was the result of them being filled with the Holy Spirit.

Their boldness was not a natural personality trait, it had a supernatural source.

When Christians are not bold to speak the word of God it’s because they’re not filled with the Holy Spirit.

This would mean there are very few Christians who are filled with the Holy Spirit.

And, over the long term, if they never speak the word of God with boldness it must be because they are happy not being filled with the Holy Spirit.

…..

“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” (1 Cor. 15:58)

How many of us are “abounding in the work of the Lord”?

……

The only shame a Christian needs to own is for unrepented sin, because if we justify or excuse any sin then it is truly to our shame, and if we don’t repent we will stand ashamed when He returns.

One day God had this great idea and decided to create this fun space where people could interact with each other and explore new possibilities, and He decided to call it the Uni-verse.

We Christians have good reason to rejoice every waking moment, but sometimes we forget those reasons.

“Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!”

(Philippians 4:4)

You believe He will keep His word, don’t you? You believe He loves you, don’t you? You believe He is faithful, don’t you?

So, rejoice!

….

If you’re sick know that Jesus Christ is THE HEALER, so you might want to talk with Him about it.

……

According to the Bible, your personal freedom and rights will continue to be eroded by over-reaching government until it gets to the point that you will need to take the “Mark of the Beast” in order to “earn the right” to make financial transactions.

‘If you do what we say we will even allow you to exist! Aren’t we generous!?’

Many western Christians seem to be insulated from historical reality because they think the loss of freedom and rights is some new thing, when multitudes of Christians endured the loss of their freedom over the last century under Communism, and millions of Christians even now are denied even basic human rights.

The freedom of thought, belief and religion experienced in the West over the last several generations is EXCEPTIONAL in the history of the world.

It never happened before on this scale anywhere or anytime in human civilisation.

Now, it’s over.

……

I love history. We all have a part in history as history is made with each passing day, but do we know our place in history? One day yours and my life, too, will be history.

Peace with God, through our Lord Jesus Christ (Rom. 5:1). Meaning: God has resolved all the issues He had with you, and the result is His deep, abiding peace.

You can have this peace if you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.

……

Church can happen anytime, anyplace a few people who walk with the Lord happen to meet.

But it’s quite rare to find Christians who want to have church anyplace, anytime, or who could recognize it as church, because..

  • ….we are not in a Revival time so many are spiritually dead and have no desire or concept of Christian fellowship.
  • ….or, they are spiritually alive, but bad teaching and cultural church tradition has robbed them of understanding what fellowship is.

Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

When football fans meet they talk football.

When disciples of Jesus meet they talk the word of God.

“Even so you, since you are zealous for spiritual gifts, let it be for the edification of the church that you seek to excel.(1 Cor. 14:12)

…..

Materialism has made Christians spiritually stupid.

What’s the point of discussing scripture with “Christians” who don’t believe in the authority of scripture? They should go and join the golf club.

Do you think it will turn out better for you if you don’t have faith?

Patience and gentleness are fruits of the Spirit (See Gal. 5:21-22).

Enough said.

Man is so designed that he is either a worshiper of God or an idol worshiper.

How fake does something need to be before you recognize it as fake?

…..

God “…desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” (1 Tim. 2:4)

In its context this verse refers to praying for “all men” as well as those in secular authority, political leaders.

If we’re going to pray for Joe Biden it would mean, in context, we’re desiring that he “be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth”. This is what the text teaches. God desires “all men to be saved”.

But, often we don’t care whether people are saved or not.

What’s the point of praying for those in authority if you don’t desire them to be saved?

….

The Creator of the Universe was nailed to a cross.

Watch the Pope

True Christians will never deny that Jesus Christ is the only Lord and Savior.

Many streams of thought will come together.

Kanye West claims to be a Christian. The other day he said, “we all collectively are God because God is in us”.

This is a syncretism of Christianity and Hinduism.

Syncretism. Get used to it.

…..

Academics refer to the Christian world, the Islamic world, and so on, but if we define a Christian as one who is a disciple of Jesus Christ, then how can the west be called the Christian world?

……

“Christians” who believe the judgments in the Bible are merely symbolic are in for a rude shock when God’s judgment falls on them.

It’s better to flat out say you don’t believe the Bible than to do clever twisting of scripture which reveal you don’t believe it.

…..

“But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.”

(Matthew 6:6)

When a disciple of Jesus goes into the prayer closet and shuts the door behind him he actually has a meeting with God.

That’s why he does it.

That’s why it is the highlight of his day.

Disciples of Jesus are just fine sitting alone in the silence. They’re never alone, and long to spend time alone with the LORD.

Every reference to seeking God in scripture is about seeking Him early in the day, seeking Him first. This is what the Lord Jesus did, and every disciple over history who ever amounted to anything has done. King David said, “Early will I seek thee!”.

If we leave our seeking and waiting on God until bed time, then we are seeking Him last. We are seeking first the things of our life, placing them as top priority, and then, after we have done all that we want, giving the leftover time and energy to God.

It’s like throwing Him the leftovers from the meal.

It’s like seeking last the Kingdom of God.

……

Never get too excited or enthusiastic about any teacher, preacher or pastor as they’re only men and their writings are not scripture. The honor we give others needs to be the right kind of honor, from the correct perspective before God. He has a way for us to honor all in the appropriate way.

…..

When you meet any person today you are meeting someone very precious, who is loved by God, and for whom Christ died.

…..

A disciple of Jesus is always open to adjusting their lifestyle, schedule, habits, traditions, patterns if or when He calls them to.

……

True Christianity is more than survival, it is to do the will of God and finish the work He has given us to do.

One of the greatest fulfillments of Bible prophecy we are seeing right now is the amount of delusion in professing Christians.

As a disciple of Jesus continues to live their life they come to experience in real life that every promise of God is true.

It seems unbelievable that anyone would doubt Jesus Christ?

…..

There’s a lot of creatures who flatly refuse to worship their Creator.

So many refuse to thank or praise Him.

They try to shut Him out of their minds completely.

…..

If the reason someone dislikes another is because they teach what the Bible teaches, then, what does it say about them?

……

To become prominent in the “church system” one has to work the system and play by its rules, and a genuine person won’t do that.

……

Repentance is not salvation by good works. When one repents they don’t earn anything with God for doing it. To repent and believe is to simply receive His grace. The unrepentant decide not to receive His grace.

Faith is not a meritorious work, and repentance is a fruit of faith, so it’s also not a work. We can’t earn salvation through faith and repentance but we can receive it.

Faith and repentance are inseparable because they both describe the same state of the heart.

Salvation is conditional upon faith.

Faith, as a condition, does not mean it is a meritorious good work, of which we could boast or take credit for.

The condition is that one receives or accepts the promise.

The condition does not earn the promise.

If you won the lottery you wouldn’t be earning it by showing up to collect your prize.

But if you didn’t collect it, you wouldn’t have it.

And a person who boasted of the fact that they went down to claim their money would be a twit – You would say, you would have been an idiot not to.

So, meeting a condition does not imply that you have earned something.

Receiving a gift does not earn credit points. You just receive it.

And you must receive Jesus Christ.

God will help you, God will empower you, give you the desire, everything, but He won’t receive Jesus for you, and He won’t repent for you. You have to do it.

He holds you responsible for repenting and believing.

Where I think the main application today is, is that many view grace as an escape clause from responsibility.

I’ve heard people say that they are waiting for the Lord to deliver them from a besetting sin. And, they said, if they try to stop doing it then they are striving in the flesh and trying to earn their deliverance.

So, while it’s true that only the Lord can deliver us, He also asks us, When are you going to stop doing it?

‘Lord! When will you deliver me??’

Answer? ‘When will you stop doing it? Did you think I would do the repenting for you?’

The teaching that nothing you could ever do could cause Jesus to love you, or stop loving you (which is a half truth) often takes away the true, reverential fear of God.

Love is unconditional, but salvation is conditional upon faith, with the fruit of repentance.

The Sovereignty of God is one of the most fantastic truths we can be anchored in, and yet, many use it to justify their unwillingness to repent.

…….

Salvation can’t be earned, but one can disqualify himself.

It’s ridiculous to claim that nothing you could ever do or believe could disqualify you from salvation.

Just as it’s ridiculous to think you can earn salvation.

……

Here’s what I think the guidelines are for the theology of salvation: You totally trust God’s grace in Christ for every aspect of your salvation, with nothing that you’ve done which you can glory in or take credit for, AND you realize God requires you to be faithful, and will judge you if you’re not, and you believe He would be totally just to do so. You give God the glory for your obedience, and you take full responsibility for any disobedience.

Perhaps 90% of the time theology is used wrongly, as a means to justify ones lifestyle.

…..

The Bible teaches realism by telling you exactly what’s going to happen, so you can be prepared.

……

The Holy Spirit gives us the fruit of self control by empowering us to take control over our mind, flesh and the devil.

This is how Christ rules a person’s life, by giving them the power to rule their own life under His command.

……..

Luther nailed his thesis to the door.

What’s amazing is that it wasn’t being done on every “church” door at the time.

Wherever Christianity has been hijacked by jokers, “nail your thesis to the door”, if you can.

……

“And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” (Mark 16:15-18)

The Lord Jesus wants every person to hear the Good News.

Yet, we can’t tell every person we see or encounter.

But we can tell as moved by the Holy Spirit.

And, if someone is never moved by the Spirit to tell the Good News, there’s a problem.

…….

Whatever thrill the world can give you it’s only temporary and doesn’t last, it doesnt feed your soul permanently, but Jesus eternally satisfies the human heart.

……

Repost:

A principle of the Bible is that God is greater than the problems we face, and He wants us to believe that.

……

The command for us to love all people isn’t primarily for us to have gushing emotional love for everyone, but about us having a desire for them to be reconciled to God.

……

To my non-Christian friends, could you give me some quotes from the greatest Man who ever lived?

A bit funny if you can’t quote the greatest Man who ever lived.

Ask the youth, give me just one quote from the greatest Man who ever lived?

The greatest Man who ever lived is still alive.

How could people not believe the greatest Man who ever lived?

……

What if God decided to give you everything just for free, wouldn’t you be so thankful? Because that would be so good of Him to just give you everything when you don’t deserve it and can’t pay for it, right?

Well, that’s what He did when He sent His only begotten Son to die for you.

And that’s what God accomplished by that one sacrifice for us.

……

Give up a fundamental human right in order to keep your fundamental human rights??

Something’s fishy.

Your religion, beliefs, moral values, race, skin color, medical choices etc. are not the legitimate business of any government. Push back at the ballot box.

……

It’s clever of the New World Order to turn peoples personal beliefs concerning climate change, education, vaccine mandates, gender etc. into moral issues, and thus rendering the non-compliant ones as being morally wrong, and thus, through the back door initiating people into a new religion without them realizing it.

……

For what it’s worth, for those who ponder the big picture or grand scheme of things, and the meaning of history, Mike Pompeo recently tweeted that America is “exceptional” in its place in human history, meaning, there has been no other civilization in history quite like it, it stands out in many respects as the exception, to which I agree.

As to “greatness”, Christians have a very different criteria for judging it than the world does.

The doctrine of American Exceptualism should be tempered with this truth:

“In the measure that she glorified herself and lived luxuriously, in the same measure give her torment and sorrow; for she says in her heart, ‘I sit as queen, and am no widow, and will not see sorrow.’” (Rev. 18:7)

She believes she is immune from God’s judgment.

……

Christian, have we begun to understand the full inventory of God’s mercy upon us, in Christ Jesus, in having forgiven us of everything offensive to Him we’ve ever thought, said or done?

……

A little ‘experiment’ some brothers have done: They decided to teach and preach God’s word (in obedience to God’s call) and then decided they would do it, as much as they’re aware, by the examples and principles they see in the NT, so… they determined in their hearts:

  • To preach and teach for free, never expecting or looking for donations, and never merchandising.
  • To never claim to be anyone or anything, nor claim any title, and not to recognize titles others may give them.
  • To tell the raw, unvarnished truth, even if it costs them the loss of everything.
  • To never court privilege or advantage from influential people.
  • To treat everyone as equals, and even better than oneself.
  • To pay no regard to personal praise, but listen closely to any criticism and test whether it is true.
  • To never promote oneself.

Etc…..

And the ‘experiment’ seems to have worked well for those who have tried it.

Those who say it doesn’t work are not honest. They mean, they don’t want it to work because it ruins their dreams of making it big in the religion business.

……

God’s word is not man’s word.

Most prefer man’s word.

……

Contemporary “music” is quite a fitting soundtrack to the Apocalypse.

……

One very exciting aspect of prayer is that God answers it.

……

This life is a tiny blip on the timeline of eternity.

……

The great cure for discouragement is to serve the Lord Jesus Christ.

Discouragement will come, but this is the cure.

…….

Would I be too harsh to say the average Christian now is like a spiritual zombie, just an empty shell: God doesn’t speak to them, or, if He does, they’re keeping it to themselves?

I don’t mean “God told me!” Nooooo… We don’t go there.

God speaking to us means we walk and live in the
Spirit.

The only authoritative “God told me” is scripture itself.

……

No wonder there’s not much New Testament type church today when so many are spiritually dead?

We can only understand the existence of the church in the New Testament in terms of a mighty move of the Holy Spirit.

……

True Christian faith is based…

  • on what Christ has done and accomplished on the Cross.
  • on the promises of God.
  • on what God said He WILL do, specifically.
  • on what God CAN do: that nothing is too hard for Him.

…..

The moment a deluded person dies they are no longer deluded, but understand why they were deluded on earth, and will have to suffer the consequences forever.

Delusion must be self delusion, because everyone is accountable.

…..

Grace is for every situation, every moment.
