John 8:44b
“…there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.”
In this chapter Jesus compares truth with lies. He teaches that the devil replaces the truth with lies in the hearts and minds of men. These lies are created to substitute for the truth.
The devil speaks a lie from his own resources, in other words, he thinks he has the authority to be the arbiter of truth, as if he were God. We see this in the Garden of Eden when he assured Eve that she would not die, contrary to the truth she heard from God.
If God says something, it is true because God said it.
So, the devil wants to get in on this too, and thinks that if he creates a lie, that people should unquestioningly accept that lie as the truth.
Of course, how this works out in real life is that the devil gets people to believe just like he does, that they are the arbiters of truth, and therefore, that they are intrinsically spiritual authorities, so, whatever they say, it must be the truth, because they are the source of truth, yet they’re seemingly oblivious to the fact that the devil is the author of their lie, and their true father.
They are self-referring. They believe something to be true because they want it to be true. So, truth becomes what they want to be true.
Therefore, they speak from their own resources. In other words, they are lying, but have convinced themselves that their lie is the truth.
Keep in mind the subject is about truth IN RELATION TO GOD. Not truth in general.
So spiritual truth is a question of authority.
And regarding the devil creating a lie from his own resources, it could possibly imply he creates a lie and then, out of pride, believes the lie he has created. His pride could be so great that he can’t help but deceive himself.
And then this same equation works out in his stooges.

If we were to be in control of our appetites, by the Spirit’s help, it wouldn’t necessarily mean we are legalistic or ascetic. It might just mean that we have a purpose for being in control of our appetites. By the Spirit, we can be in control if we want to.

Principled, or expedient?
Expedient:
“(of an action) convenient and practical although possibly improper or immoral.
“either side could break the agreement if it were expedient to do so”
A Christian acts out of principle and not out of any other motive.
Of course, love is the guiding principle.

While the manner in which a spiritual message is conveyed is important, the most important thing is whether it’s true.
Whereas, today, the manner or style is more important than whether it’s true.

In the Bible, “death” simply means to be alienated from God.
In this context Jesus says to believe on Him and LIVE.
From death to life. No longer alienated from God.
When people physically die, nothing changes with them spiritually. They will exist forever in whatever spiritual state they died, either forever in union with God, or forever alienated from God.

The New Testament account of the Christian faith is unique to all other faiths, and even quite apart in practice to historical Christianity, itself. There were no temples, no religious buildings or edifices, no statues or icons, no priests, no rituals, no bells, no smells, no robes, no holy days, no holy ground, no holy water, no superstitions, no list of church rules, no liturgy, etc etc.
Then, what was it about? If it didn’t have anything which normally constitutes a religion, what was it? What mighty power propelled a movement forward which had no religious forms to bind it together?
It was the transformative power of the Gospel by the power of the Holy Spirit. It was a people transformed by the Spirit of God.
The transformative power of the Gospel is why I’m talking to you right now.
The Christian faith is a community of people who share the one fact that Jesus has saved them, and they’ve been born again.
And in every nation there are some Christians who live out their faith together free of the baggage which arrived centuries after the church was born.

Existential thought
Who or what are you?
Are you just an animated piece of meat, a bunch of cells, which came from nothing and will return to nothing?
Are you just a physical lump of tissue?
You might answer, ‘I am a human being!’
Okay, what exactly is a human being?
Or you might say, ‘I am me!’
Okay, what is ‘me’?
What I’m driving at is, we can only know who or what we are in relation to our Creator.
Has your Creator said anything about who or what you are?
…..
Luke 12:15
“And He said to them, “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.” “
If one’s life does not consist of possessions, then what does one’s life consist of?
We could also surmise that if one’s life does not consist of possessions, then it also does not consist of achievements, or honors this world bestows, or anything this world has to offer.
What is your life?
What does it mean?
1 John 5:12
“He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.”
What did Jesus’ life consist of?
John 4:34

And….
John 10:10b
” I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

John 3:1-3
“There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.
This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.”
Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” “
.
.
Nicodemus was, no doubt, a good man by society’s standards. And he was a religiously devout man, believing that God exists, and even a man well read in the scriptures.
And yet Jesus tells him he needs to be born again.
Whatever goodness he possesses, or kind deeds he does, or whatever religious beliefs or observances he practices, these do not and cannot make him born again.
And unless he is born again he won’t see or enter the eternal Kingdom of God.
Have you been born again?
……
Now, as God designed everything that exists, then, to think about food, He designed all the flavors (cooked or uncooked) so, to design a flavor would mean He knows what things taste like because He created the taste – and flavors which He knew we would like would be flavors or tastes that He, Himself, liked first. Not saying He had a taste test first, but showing how much amazing complex intelligence went into such things.
The God is in the details.
Many people wouldn’t contemplate that everything that exists was designed.
For example, even emotions, feelings, sensations, and the whole sphere of experience.
Anything you’ve experienced only exists because God designed and created it.

…..
The ways the Holy Spirit works can be deemed mysterious, because God moves in mysterious ways. Mysterious ways means in ways we don’t fully understand or comprehend. For example, He has been given to those who obey God as the Helper, to help us do what we couldn’t do on our own or by our own resources. As far as our witness of the Gospel goes, He is there to help us communicate it and guide our words, bringing His words to our remembrance. So, there is always this tension between these two dynamics: that which is by the Spirit, and that which is solely from our mind, independent of the Spirit. That which is by the Spirit is never solely by the Spirit, but we can also speak entirely independently of the Spirit, which is all of us and none of Him.
And the Spirit won’t force us to speak.
So, if we are silent concerning the Gospel, is this due to Him or due to us?
Silence on our part can be cured through prayer. Be in a spirit of prayer at all times, and this heightens our sensitivity to the Holy Spirit, and, therefore, if He has something to say to someone through us, we won’t miss it, and also, through prayer, God will move on people’s hearts and sovereignly initiate conversations towards the Gospel or God’s word.
We need to be a vessel fit for the Master’s use:
2 Timothy 2:21
“Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.”

If anything perpetually moves in a certain direction, no matter how gradually it moves, it eventually reaches where it’s heading to. The direction it’s moving in has a destination. Now, apply that to the degeneration of a an individual, society or nation. The world is not getting better. People are not getting better, they’re getting worse, because they’re heading in the wrong direction, which is away from God. Only the Lord knows how far they will descend into evil before God says, Enough!.

Usually people’s objections to the Bible are really their conscience being disturbed by it.
….
Ceasing from sin doesn’t earn our justification, as Christ earned that for us, but it does mean we’re no longer earning the wages of sin, which is death. Abiding in Him is not a meritorious work, but simply the outcome of grace through faith. If we continue willfully in sin then we’re not abiding in Him, and therefore, if we thought we could live this way and still be justified by grace then we’d be deceived.
