On and off faith?

Can the faith which is in your heart toward Jesus be switched on and off? In other words is there anything in your life which is not the result of your faith or the fruit of your faith in Jesus? We need to learn the difference between what we do in faith and what we do apart from faith: that which is of faith and that which is not of faith.
